From early 2012 low income households will have access to no or low interest loans to enable them to purchase more energy efficient whitegoods. This will enable many low income households to cut their power bills under the new federal government scheme.
The scheme is expected to benefit more than 50 000 households.
The households will be taught to use power outside of peak periods and allow them to cut their energy use through more efficient lighting and products such as shower heads.
The scheme will be delivered through not for profit organisations that provide financial counselling in the community.
