Important information for all business owners

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Did you know that as an employer you have an obligation under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 to ensure that any person that is carrying out work at your business is electrically safe?

Having electrical work carried out when the power is still on is dangerous, illegal and can be fatal.
If any unnecessary live work is carried out the electrician, employers or self employed person can be fined significant penalties for non compliance.

Electrical Safety Regulation 2002 states that if any live work is to be carried out certain criteria must be met before work can commence. One of the criteria is that anyone in control of the electrical equipment i.e the employers must be consulted about the live work being carried out.
