Changes to MEPS for Incandescent Lamps

Monday, November 14, 2011

Did you know that lighting your home represents around 12 percent of energy consumption and around 25 percent in the commercial sector?

In order to reduce this, the Australian government has set a plan to target areas where money can be saved by replacing inefficient light globes with more cost effective and energy efficient alternatives.

Inefficient lamps will be phased out from April 2012. The section of Australian Standards (4934.2-2011) will be legislated in each state.  It is expected that within the legislation that the 50 Watt MR16 halogen lamp will not be able to be imported after April 2012.

The Lighting Council Australia has compiled a list of light globes so that you can understand the minimum energy performance for incandescent lamps.
